February 2006 Edition

From an old fashioned favorite like The Princess and the Pea, to finding that premier mare or stallion at the Horse Affairs or blazing your way through a BMX trail, this month will certainly provide enough activity to please the entire family!

Community Festivals, Concerts and Performing Arts Events

A great winter means we shall have great boating, so get yourself to the Treasure Valley Boat Show, starting Thursday, February 9th and lasting until Sunday, February 12th. All takes place at the Western Idaho Fairgrounds and is sponsored by the Western Idaho Marine Dealers. For admission prices and more details visit www.expoidaho.com or call 336-1500. The old fashioned story The Princess and the Pea still fascinates old and young alike. Don't miss this delightful family event, presented by Ballet Idaho at the Morrison Center on Saturday, February 18th. For admission prices and times call 343-0556. Who loves dirt and bicycles? That's right; BMX Racing is back at the Western Idaho Fairgrounds on Friday, February 10th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and again on Saturday, February 11th from 2:00pm to 6:30pm. If that wasn't enough, come back again on the 17th thru the 19th, exact times to be determined. For more details, visit www.expoidaho.com. For all of our horse lovers don't miss Horse Affairs 2006 beginning on Friday, February 17th and concluding on February 19th. For admission, events and speakers visit www.horseaffairs.com or www.expoidaho.com.

Treasure Valley Sports

The schedule may be light, but the action is heavy! Get out there and support our own Kelly Cup Champs, the Idaho Steelheads. The Steelies battle the Bakersfield Condors on Friday, February 10th and again on Saturday, February 11th. Go Steelheads!

Economic Outlook

"Last year was one of the best years for expansion in Idaho and 2006 is forecasted to look just as good," said Roger B. Madsen from the Idaho Dept. of Commerce. Hundreds of new jobs have been created from the expansion of existing companies and the opening of new ones. With openings on the horizon, such as the Marathon Cheese packaging plant in Mountain Home, projected to bring 250 new jobs and double the payroll in 2 years, these new jobs are boosting the incomes of Idaho families. This increase in revenue is enabling the state to maintain good schools, protect our natural resources and ensure public health and safety. In addition, Sunset Magazine recently reported Idaho and the Treasure Valley as one of the most desirable places to live in the country. "Idaho has a natural advantage with favorable business operation costs, an extremely high quality of life, a safe environment and a comparatively low cost of living." Wow, way to go Idaho!
