"We think that in Idaho, we will continue to see strong demand for new housing and growth," said John Eaton, Idaho Association of Realtors. Just another strong indicator that the Treasure Valley economy is still flying! "Job growth and population gains in and around the Boise area have and will continue to lead to solid home sales", said a representative of Freddie Mac. Another strong indication of a flourishing economy is the rise in the number of flights in and out of the Boise Airport. The Boise Airport is on track this year to surpass 1,500,000 passengers embarking on flights. Even United Airlines, which has been operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy, increased its seat availability in and out of Boise. Delta Airlines plans to extend its direct flights out of Boise to its Atlanta hub, "a sign that Delta sees Boise as a strong market." As usual, there are many new developments in and around the Treasure Valley. Spokane based Sterling Savings is targeting Meridian for its second valley unit. Sterling plans a full service branch at the northwest corner of Overland and Eagle roads in the Grandview Station development. "We have looked at a lot of sites, Meridian is growing and will be a great location for us," said Linda Seghetti, Field and Marketing Manager of Sterling. Plans have been announced for a 670-acre new development 40 miles north of Boise, near Garden Valley. Southfork Landing will consist of 473 home sites, several commercial sites and a considerable amount of open space. Potential commercial projects include a hotel and conference center, restaurants, an outdoor amphitheater and an equestrian center. Whew, what an exciting couple of months on the horizon!
